HUNTSVILLE POLICE OFFICER SHOT KILLED
Huntsville police officer Daniel Golden was killed this afternoon while answering a call to an apparent domestic disturbance. Golden was shot in the head in the parking lot of the Tequila Plaza Latina. Two people were taken into custody after the shooting. Golden was with the city's west precinct and was covering a call for the north precinct. He is the eighth Huntsville officer to die in the line of duty.

UPDATE: Suspect charged!
Huntsville police charged 31-year-old Benito Albarran with capital murder late Monday in the shooting death of police officer Daniel Golden. Police spokesman Wendell Johnson said Albarran was charged about 9 p.m. Monday and booked into the Madison County jail with no bond. Golden, 27, was shot in the head while responding to a 3:20 p.m. domestic dispute call at Jalisco Mexican Restaurant at 2648 Jordan Lane. He died a short while later at Huntsville Hospital. Police Chief Rex Reynolds requested that all officers drape their police badges with black in honor of Golden. Mayor Loretta Spencer requested that flags be flown at half staff.

ALABAMA MINUTEMEN SUPPORT TEAM HEADING TO NEW MEXICO
A group of Alabamians is heading to New Mexico to patrol the border as part of the controversial Minuteman Project. The Alabama Minuteman Support Team, or AMiST, plans on fielding a force of 125 volunteers at the border with Mexico for a month-long vigil in October. Mike Vanderboegh, group spokesman, said 30 volunteers have already signed up. (more)

HISPANIC TOWN MEETING IN BIRMINGHAM
Trusting no repercussions would befall them inside Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, more than 300 Hispanics filled its auditorium on Sunday seeking answers from federal and local officials. U.S. Rep. Artur Davis, D-Birmingham, spent more than two months coordinating what was being touted as Alabama's first Latino/Hispanic Town Hall Meeting.
