In a rather bizarre ruling that has marine industry officials worried, Judge Robert G. James of the United States District Court, Western Division of Louisiana, has said that it is criminal trespass for the American boating public to boat, fish, or hunt on the Mississippi River and other navigable waters in the US. Ethan Nadelmann is the founder and executive director of the Drug Policy Alliance, the leading organization in the United States promoting alternatives to the war on drugs. Ethan was born in New York City and received his BA, JD, and PhD from Harvard, and a Masters degree in International Relations from the London School of Economics. He then taught politics and public affairs at Princeton University from 1987 to 1994, where his speaking and writings on drug policy -- in publications ranging from Science and Foreign Affairs to American Heritage and National Review -- attracted international attention. He also authored the book, Cops Across Borders, the first scholarly study of the internationalization of U.S. criminal law enforcement. A new book, co-authored with Peter Andreas and entitled Policing the Globe: Criminalization and Crime Control in International Relations, will be published by Oxford University Press in 2006.
In 1994, Ethan founded the Lindesmith Center, a drug policy institute created with the philanthropic support of George Soros. In 2000, the growing Center merged with another organization to form the Drug Policy Alliance, which advocates for drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights. Described by Rolling Stone as "the point man" for drug policy reform efforts, Ethan is widely regarded as the outstanding proponent of drug policy reform.

3 KILLED OUTSIDE EMBASSY IN SYRIA
Gunmen apparently blew up a car outside the U.S. Embassy and exchanged fire with Syrian guards on Tuesday in a brazen attack on Damascus' diplomatic neighborhood. Syrian security forces killed three of the attackers, the government said. (more)

MISSLE FIRED AT MCCAIN ESCORT HELICOPTER DURING VISIT
A missile was fired at a helicopter escorting Sen. John McCain during a visit to the Republic of Georgia last week. A statement from that nation’s interior ministry says the surface-to-air missile was aimed at a chopper involved in a visit of a U.S. Senate delegation to the former Soviet republic. The conversations released by New York City officials include the voices of at least 19 firefighters and two emergency medical technicians killed when the World Trade Center twin towers collapsed, although most of the calls are from firefighters asking dispatchers where they should report for duty, the Fire Department said.

JODY ZEITLER FUNERAL INFORMATION
Services for Ms. Jody Zeitler of Trussville, Alabama will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, August 30, 2006 at the Lakeshore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 131 Oxmoor Court, Birmingham, Alabama. Rev. Steve Lawrence of Hacklesburg, Alabama will conduct the funeral and graveside services. Internment will be in Trussville's West Jefferson Cemetery immediately following the Chapel service. Jody was a 12 year veteran and as such, military honors will be accorded her at grave site.
Jody is survived by her son Blaze, 15, of Trussville, her elderly mother and her dear sweet friends, Lisa Sharpe and Kim Chambers. It was Kim who brought this great need and opportunity to our attention, this past Friday morning during our broadcast.
Thanks to some wonderful "Angels" in our listening audience who contacted and offered to join with us and the extraordinary staff of the Lakeshore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, Jody will have funeral after all and will not be buried in the county cemetery.
A very special thank you and expression of gratitude is due Mr. Wesley Anderson, General Manager of the Lakeshore Memorial Chapel Funeral Home for his kindness, his patience and his willingness to work with us as we scrambled to put the finances and other details together over the weekend. He is a very special man, having served our own family, when Dee's dear Mother passed away earlier this summer.
If you would like to be part of this celebration of Jody's life we encourage you join us on Wednesday morning at the funeral home. You may call 205-942-4441 for directions or acquire a map and directions with Mapquest on the internet. We hope you will do something special on Wednesday and be with us to say good-bye to someone none of us ever met. It will help her son, enormously.

You broadcast Israeli troop movements. UNIFIL--the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon, a nearly 2,000-man blue-helmet contingent that has been present on the Lebanon-Israel border since 1978--is officially neutral. Yet, throughout the recent war, it posted on its website for all to see precise information about the movements of Israeli Defense Forces soldiers and the nature of their weaponry and materiel, even specifying the placement of IDF safety structures within hours of their construction. New information was sometimes only 30 minutes old when it was posted, and never more than 24 hours old... Meanwhile, UNIFIL posted not a single item of specific intelligence regarding Hezbollah forces. (more)

WARNING SIGNS OF A PEDOPHILE
Today at 7:30 a.m. we had a very important interview with Dr. Joshua Estrin. The story of John Karr, the suspect in the JonBenet Ramsey Case is leading to more concerns about pedophiles among us. Many parents are concerned that schools are not doing enough background checks on teahers. Other parents are becoming more concerned about possible strangers in the neighborhood. Yet even more troubling is that the fact that often, we only think of a pedophile as someone after little boys when they can be after little girls too. Why is that? What are some signs that parents should be concerned with if they see it? Are there signs that can identify a pedohile?
Dr. Joshua Estrin, a noted author and psychotherapist. He says there are characteristics that parents should be aware of in adults that should send off warning signs.

Two Republican lawmakers Tuesday proposed a compromise immigration plan that would call for securing the border first and then allowing some illegal immigrants to work legally within the country without granting amnesty. Under the plan crafted by Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson (R-Texas) and Rep. Mike Pence (R-Ind.), illegal immigrants would "self deport" to their home countries within two years after the bill is signed into law.
